Woodcock & Wilson is proud to announce that Abd-Al Basit, our Chief Engineer, has successfully achieved the Chartered Engineer (CEng) status and been elected as a Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE).

Abd-Al Basit’s journey with Woodcock & Wilson began in 2019 when he joined as a Research and Development Engineer. Since then, he has continually demonstrated his commitment to developing himself and others around him. Through his hard work and focus, he has progressed to Senior Research and Development Engineer, and now holds the esteemed role of Chief Engineer.

Fast-tracked success in achieving CEng

Chartered Engineer qualification demands a deep expertise in the domain of engineering , Basit’s hard work and hands-on experience allowed him to achieve this distinction in just five years. His application showcased his ability to solve engineering problems through innovation and accountability, making him a standout candidate for this prestigious title.

Basit’s success is also a reflection of the supportive environment at Woodcock & Wilson. Sponsored by the company, he received guidance and encouragement from Ian and Charles, whose leadership was instrumental throughout the process. Basit expressed his gratitude, saying, “I am incredibly thankful to Ian and Charles for their support in providing me with the resources to achieve this milestone.”

As Chief Engineer, Abd-Al Basit continues to play a pivotal role in shaping Woodcock & Wilson’s technical capabilities. His contributions include:

  • Developing the company’s Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) capabilities.
  • Leading the compilation and maintenance of design standards.
  • Mentoring and developing current engineering graduates to become future leaders.
  • Providing technical consultation on day-to-day engineering functions and driving the adoption of cutting-edge technologies such as Industry 4.0.

Basit’s vision for the future includes encouraging his technical team to pursue Chartered status. He strongly recommends the qualification to anyone in a technical career, emphasising its value in helping individuals track their progress and achieve professional goals.

A passion for innovation

Basit’s passion for engineering extends beyond his work at Woodcock & Wilson. Recently, he played a key role in introducing an aerospace department at the University of Huddersfield. The department is now working on an ambitious project to design a Mars Rover, set to launch fully in 2025. Stay tuned for updates on this groundbreaking initiative on the university’s website.
