Woodcock & Wilson, one of the UK’s leading fan manufacturers has been instrumental in assisting a student team of ‘would be’ racing car engineers prepare for the forthcoming F1 in Schools technology challenge World Championships in Malaysia in March.
By donating one of its axial fans, Woodcock & Wilson has been able to support Team Momentus, consisting of three students from The Gryphon School in Dorset, to build a wind tunnel to test their car designs. The axial fan has proved to be a vital element of the team building the tunnel, which is allowing them to achieve wind speeds that can simulate race conditions.
The F1 in Schools project is aimed at helping change perceptions in engineering, science and technology by creating a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to develop an informed view about careers in these areas. Students are required to design, build, test and race small Formula 1 style cars made from balsa wood and powered by a small CO2 cartridge.
F1 in Schools has seen a total of 7 million students taking part in 26 countries worldwide and Team Momentus, who won the UK National Championship last year, now go on to compete at the World Championships next month, thanks to Woodcock & Wilson’s involvement.
Team manager, Matt Bulger said: ‘Woodcock and Wilson were very generous in supplying the team with an axial fan for our wind tunnel. We are very grateful for their involvement, which is proving to be a vital element in our bid to try and produce the best car we can for the World Championships in March.’
