WW Apprentices Awarded Level 3 Diploma in Engineering

Back in August 2014 we interviewed Liam Waddington & Sam Monks who were both in the middle of a Fabrication & Welding apprenticeship at Kirklees College. The guys spent four days each week here in the Woodcock & Wilson factory and the remaining day in college, focusing mostly on the theory aspect of their course. The course consisted of a number of modules to study in college including Maths, Science, Sheet Metal and also ICT.

We’re delighted to announce that this month Liam & Sam have both been awarded a Level 3 Diploma in Engineering - Fabrication & Welding by City & Guilds.

Congratulations from all at Woodcock & Wilson.

Managing Director, Ian Crum said “The boys success is testament to Woodcock & Wilson’s ongoing commitment to apprenticeships. Approximately 20% of our current staff consists of former apprentices whom we consider an essential component to our business.”

Here at Woodcock and Wilson our vibrant team members have some truly fascinating hobbies.
Our Works Manager, Simon Lockwood is an old English Bantam enthusiast and is the proud owner of over 200 birds. While he was first introduced to old English bantams by a neighbour in 1977, his interest in poultry was rekindled four years ago and since then he has been collecting Bantams with a vengeance. With 15 acknowledged colours or classes of bantam, these “pure” breed birds are highly sought after and can be bred together in order to produce some intriguing colour combinations.

In the last few years Simon has gone on to win a number of prestigious prizes for his championship winning birds. Most notably however was his success as the Carlisle Game show. With around 1500 entries from across England, Scotland and Wales, the show is one of the biggest of its kind. Despite competing against 76 birds, two of Simon’s black hens managed to achieve 3rd and 4th position in their class. Given Simon’s recent success, it will be interesting to see how his stock performs in the upcoming autumn shows.
