ATEX

European legislation concerning working with or in potentially explosive atmospheres.

THE LEGISLATION ASSOCIATED WITH THESE DIRECTIVES DIRECTLY AFFECT ALL USERS OF FANS IN AREAS WHERE GASES, VAPOURS OR DUST CLOUDS COULD COMBINE WITH AIR TO FORM POTENTIALLY EXPLOSIVE MIXTURES.

The Atex directive came into force in July 2003 and applies to the whole of the EU and EEA. If your company is operating in an environment where potentially explosive atmospheres could be generated then all new installations since then must conform to the ATEX/DSDEAR regulations. In addition, all existing installations must have been analysed and a risk assessment conducted using these regulations before the end of June 2006.

Woodcock & Wilson would like to point out that any organisation failing to comply with these directives will be subject to severe penalties under current UK and EU legislation. They also wish to remind end users that it is their responsibility to ensure that their working environment is safe and that all equipment operating in hazardous areas conforms to the ATEX regulations.

IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT AT A SITE NOT CONFORMING WITH THE REGULATIONS THE END USER WILL BE LIABLE FOR PROSECUTION POTENTIALLY RESULTING IN A CUSTODIAL SENTENCE.

Woodcock and Wilson are certified to manufacture fans for use in hazardous and/or explosive atmospheres in accordance with European directives 94/9/EC (ATEX 95) and 1999/92/EC (ATEX 137). It is strongly recommended that if you are in any doubt concerning the environment in which you intend to operate fans you discuss options with them at the earliest opportunity. They can advise you on your requirements and ensure that the equipment to be purchased or already installed in your premises complies fully with all necessary regulations and eliminates any risk to your workforce, visitors and other personnel.
